Our African journey began in Cape Town. Chris and I honeymooned in South Africa almost 12 years earlier. We were excited to be back and have the opportunity to share one of our favorite places with our children. It was a bumpy start with no hot water, then brown water and then we over slept and missed the whale boat. We quickly pivoted and had an amazing day starting with a yummy brunch at Jarryds to fuel up for our Table Mountain hike.

Our original plan was not to have Peter (5 at the time) go all the way up because it can take 2 full hours to get up and we were not sure he had the stamina for it. A local who saw us just before convinced us that he thought Peter could do it and so we decided it would be more fun all together.

Peter did great and if you are moving it does not take 2 full hours. It was unfortunately misting at the top so the views were not as good as normal. We took the cable car down and were blessed with rainbow after the light rain.

After a long and vigorous day we finished with a delicious dinner at Il Leone. Chris and I were excited to find our favorite wine from when we honeymooned.

Our second full day in Cape Town we set our alarms and headed to Simon’s Town for Whale Watching with the Simon’s Town Boat Company (I would highly recommend them). We were super lucky and saw 3 different species: Humpback, Southern Right and Bryde!

We then grabbed a delicious lunch in town and went to see the African penguins which were only a few minutes away. Our only lesson from this day was to not stop for as long of a lunch as we did. We wanted to make it to Kirstenbosch or the Bike Park and ran at of time.

We finished our last evening in Cape Town with a unique dinner at the Pot Luck Club.

We then continued our journey on to Namibia!
