We have been flying through these dried apples so I wanted to share this crazy easy apple recipe!  All you need are an abundance of apples and an oven!   Dried apples are great for lunchboxes or as a snack and are high in fiber and nutrients.   For more apple nutrition information and other apple recipes check out my post here.

You can make dried apples without the peels or with the peels to save time and retain some extra nutrients.  I broke down 3 different ways to cut and core your apple.  Check out my video in the recipe if you want to see each way.

3 Easy Ways to Core an Apple

    1. If you happen to have an apple peeler/corer it is the fastest and easiest way but it takes off the skin.  We usually throw the skin on the sheet pan and enjoy eating it crispy or I save it for salads or smoothies. Apple Corer:Peeler - photo

    3. Cut the apples 1/4 inch thick and cut the core out with a little cookie cutter

After you have chosen your method of coring and slicing all you have to do is put them on the sheet pan and bake!  It is super fast and a great way to use a bunch of apples. My children love eating these right off the sheet pan.  When you are out and about they are also easier to carry and leave in a bag vs. a fresh apple.

Dried Apples

Dried Apples are great for lunchboxes or as a snack and are high in fiber and nutrients and super easy to make in the oven.

  • Apples – as many as you want – 2-3 will fit on one sheet pan
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon, nutmeg or apple pie spice (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 225 and line 1-2 sheet pans with parchment paper
  2. Choose one of the following 3 ways to core and slice your apple 1/4 inch thick (peel as well if you are adverse to skin)

  3. A. If you happen to have an apple peeler/corer it is the fastest and easiest way but it takes off the skin. We usually throw the skin on the sheet pan and enjoy eating it crispy or I save it for salads or smoothies.

  4. B. You can use an apple corer and then slice

  5. C. Cut the apples 1/4 inch thick and cut the core out with a little cookie cutter

  6. Line your apples in a single layer on the sheet pan and bake for 1 1/2 – 2 hours for soft and chewy apples. (Mine take about 1 hour and 45 minutes but every oven will be slightly different). You can bake for an additional 30-45 minutes for crispy apples.
  7. Turn the oven off and crack the oven door and leave the apples for another 30min – 1 hour (we don’t always have the patience for this and usually eat them in one day).

Uses : Lunchbox, snack or in granola
Store : Airtight for up to 1 week (ours never last for more than 2 days) or refrigerate for up to 1 month.
